Walk down any street in any town and you will see a huge array of properties. Flats, bungalows, terraces, cottages, detached houses, period and modern. And the finishes will differ from house to house – exposed brick, stone and coloured render.

So why do some people render their homes? What about external insulation? What are the benefits? Is it worth the cost?
